Do You Not See It?

Marie Janssen • Jan 20, 2024

All things new...

“But forget all that-

 it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.

For I am about to do something new.
    See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
    I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

~ Isaiah 43: 18-19 NLT

We can't help it. As the old year closes and a new one begins, we naturally begin thinking of all things new: new beginnings, new resolutions, new goals. The beautiful reality is, God is not bound by our concept of time. He's always working and he's always doing something new.

In this world, our attention is constantly being pulled by every distraction known to man. Even what we consider to be good work can distract us from what God may be trying to communicate with us. The past can also hold us back. We can either be living in shame or condemnation for past things, or we can be reliving what we consider to be the "glory days" of our youth while missing the new glory God longs to pour out today and in the future.

I am filled with so much anticipation for what God is doing and is going to do! I don't want to miss it. God is asking all of us, "Do you not see it?'

I encourage all of us to let go of what was. Yes, God moved in the past. Yes, there are beautiful markers in all our lives that remind us of God's faithfulness, grace and goodness. But, we can't camp out by the markers. We have to keep walking, keep journeying because God wants to establish new markers. He wants to continue to reveal Himself to us and through us!

"The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness."
~ Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV

What a beautiful promise! God's love and mercies are new every morning! They are new for a reason. We should arise each day knowing and believing in God's faithfulness, receiving his love and mercy; not just for ourselves, but for all those He will place on our path throughout the day. As long as we have breath, the Lord longs to use us to reach a lost world with the power of the gospel (good news)!  Not only does He long for it, He commands it. (Matthew 28: 19-20, Mark 16:15)

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,

according to the power that works within us,

to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus

to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
~ Ephesians 3:20-21 NASB
